Today was a panicky day. Carol found a misunderstanding in the rules which rendered all of our programs completely useless: the green bonus squares could be on both sides. We immediately set to work assessing the situation and discussing about the necessary modifications we need to make on the robot and our programs. We were wondering how we could get round this complication with only 2 sensors. With the competition looming on sunday this was certainly the wrong time for this to happen. Nevertheless, the Lightning Squad found a solution: to use Oliver’s light sensor form his older NXT 1.0 set to follow the line. We used the sound sensor as a dummy stand in for the light sensor (it’s the same size as it). While Oliver and I modified the front ‘rack’ for the sensors to accommodate another, Jake and Jasmine made the modifications on the programs. Had we realised the complication later on in the week, we would’ve had a very hard time tying to correct it. I’m just so glad we know what to do.
