Absent: Jasmine
Phew! What an exhausting day, with the deadline looming for this Sunday's competition.
We started the day with a presentation practice. Carol filmed and timed it using her iPad, and we watched ourselves talking - that was interesting! We practised it several more times through the day and managed to improve each time, eventually fitting it into the 5 minutes allowed for set up and presentation - just! Thanks to Annabelle's mum and Helen for being our audience and giving some pointers and quizzing us about our project. Well done to Jasmine for picking up her role in the presentation so quickly after being away yesterday. We had one final quick run-through at the end of the day, when a couple of team-members had left - that was frustrating at first, but then we realised that it turned out to be a great opportunity to see how we would cope and who would step in if someone was away for the competition - we needed to know each person's part!
In between practices, the project girls prepared our team's display - cutting, cellotaping, planning and laying out the photos and information. This was a great learning opportunity for thinking about how to present information, where to put headings and pictures etc. Carol was faster, so she typed up the information about the stages of the inquiry as we told her the main points. We chose a font size of 36 and printed on A3 paper so that the words could be read easily on the display. We finally added some bacteria to make the display look more fun! We think it looks great!
The programmers worked away on their programmes, with some panicky moments when files were lost, especially trying for poor Freddie. Towards the end of the day Carol insisted we put everything together and do a run-through like we had done at Russley. One time we scored -1 point! Oh dear!
We voted for the name of our robot today - it is 'RoboChook'. We have a sense of humour! We also took a team photo for the Team information form to be handed in at the competition.
Over the weekend we will practise saying our lines for the presentation, out loud. Some of us will need to remember to bring costumes. Oliver is going to make some more samples of our innovative product and check that the files we need are definitely on the computer. Jasmine will remember the word 'innovation', Jack will remember 'between', Annabelle will talk more loudly about her sore tummy, and Ethan will remember that making lots more of something will make the price of it cheaper. Everyone will remember about the temperature needing to be below 5C :-)
And on the day, we will have fun!
