This was the best breakthrough of all our sessions. Oliver had an idea to create a brand new line following program, and here is what he did.
He used a single colour sensor to follow the line on the switch block, but instead of having one motor going and one motor stopped, he had one motor going until it sees black/white, and then that motor stops. It’s the same with the other side of the switch block. Then he used the light sensor to find more than 67% reflected light, which is the reading we got from the foil. This is what stops the line following loop and starts the other part of the program. The other part (when the loop was stopped by the light sensor) was to go forward 1 rotation, and to spin on the spot until the ultrasonic sensor sees something ( i.e. the can) closer than 15 cm away, it will drive towards it for 5 rotations, pushing the can out. Claire said this brilliant work would’ve won the tournament last year! It needs refining, but we’re well on our way to maybe even winning the tournament!
